A new variant of COVID-19 – labeled Omicron by the World Health Organization (WHO) – has prompted renewed concern regarding the ongoing pandemic. WHO labeled Omicron a ‘variant of concern,’ which is reserved for dangerous variants that could be more transmissible, virulent or could decrease the effectiveness of vaccines or treatments.
As of this writing on Dec. 16, 2021, there has not been a documented COVID-19 case linked to the Omicron variant in Indiana, but it has been found in neighboring states like Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.
